2. Obsolete. A coarse woolen cloth for undergarments.
  [Probably alteration of stamin, from Middle English stamyn, from Old French estamine, from Vulgar Latin *stāminea, from Latin, feminine of stāmineus, consisting of threads, from stāmen, stāmin-, thread. See stā-.
