SSRI (ĕs'ĕs-är-īʹ) n.
A class of drugs, such as fluoxetine or sertraline, that inhibit the uptake of serotonin by neurons of the central nervous system and are primarily used in the treatment of depression and obsessive compulsive disorder.

any of a group of drugs used mainly to treat depression, including Prozac™, Seroxat™ and Paxil™, which affect the production of chemicals within the brain. There is some research to suggest that these drugs might be addictive and cause problems for people when they stop taking them.
