      narrative ballad in the Breton language that dramatically describes local events, history, legends, and folklore. One of two major types of Breton folk poetry, the gwersiou was first published in an authenticated collection by François-Marie Luzel in Gwersiou Breiz-Izel, 2 vol. (1868–74; “Ballads of Lower Brittany”).
