a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes scarring and thickening of the intestinal walls and frequently leads to obstruction. Also called regional ileitis, regional enteritis.
[named after Burrill Bernard Crohn (1884-1983), U.S. physician, one of the authors of a description of the disease published in 1932]
