/see"leuhm/, n., pl. coeloms, coelomata /si loh"meuh teuh/. Zool.
the body cavity of higher metazoans, between the body wall and intestine, lined with a mesodermal epithelium.

[1875-80; < Gk koíloma cavity, equiv. to koilo-, var. s. of koiloûn to hollow out (v. deriv. of koîlos hollow) + -ma n. suffix denoting result]
