1. Med. the causing of medicinal substances to pass through or into living tissues in the direction of flow of a positive electric current.

[1885-90; < NL, equiv. to cata- CATA- + NGk phóresis a being borne, equiv. to phore- (var. s. of phérein to BEAR1, carry) + -sis -SIS]
