Stopes

Stopes
(1880–1958)
a Scottish scientist who was one of the first people to write and teach people about sex and contraception (= ways of preventing a woman from becoming pregnant). She wrote two important books on the subject in 1918, Married Love and Wise Parenthood. They were both extremely popular and successful, although she was criticized at the time by the Church and the medical profession.
