Leatherstocking Tales
a series of five novels by the US writer James Fenimore Cooper. They follow the life of Natty Bumppo, an 18th-century frontiersman. He first appears in The Pioneers (1823) and then (called Hawkeye) in The Last of the Mohicans (1826) and (as the Old Trapper) in The Prairie (1827). The other two novels are The Pathfinder (1840) and The Deerslayer (1841).
