greyhound racing

greyhound racing
n [U]
a popular sport in Britain in which greyhounds (= large thin dogs) race around a circular track chasing an imitation hare. People make bets on the races, and refer to the sport informally as ‘the dogs’. The two most important British races are the Greyhound Derby and the Grand National. The sport is also found in the US but is less popular there than in Britain.
