Gray’s Elegy
the name most people use to refer to the poem called Elegy written in a Country Church Yard (1751) by Thomas Gray. It describes life in the country and the dignity of man, and was an early influence on the writers of the Romantic Movement.
THE curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd wind slowly o’er the lea,
The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.
