fireside chats
n [pl]
the series of informal radio broadcasts that President Franklin D Roosevelt made in 1932 to explain his New Deal(1) and the decisions of his government. He was the first president to use radio to talk directly to the people. He called them ‘my fellow Americans’ and spoke as if he was talking with friends.
