(1759–97)
an English writer and feminist (= person who believes strongly that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men). She led a campaign for equal opportunities in education for women, and wrote books on the subject, including A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792). Her daughter was Mary Shelley.
