Robinson, Jack Roosevelt. Known as “Jackie.” 1919-1972.
American baseball player. The first African-American player in the major leagues in the 20th century, he was a second baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1947-1956), had a lifetime batting average of.311, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
