Rumphi

also spelled  Rumpi  

      town located in northern Malawi (Malaŵi) on the Rumphi (Chelinda) River at its junction with the South Rukuru River. Except for an extensive coffee crop, local agriculture is at a subsistence level. The headquarters of a Church of Scotland (Scotland, Church of) mission is located at Livingstonia, 50 miles (80 km) northeast, overlooking Lake Nyasa (Nyasa, Lake) (Lake Malawi). Pop. (2008 prelim.) 17,369.
