- Puerto Castilla
▪ Hondurasport, northern coast of Honduras. Located on the western side of a spit jutting out from the mainland north of Trujillo, the port is on an artificial island created by canals cut on its northern, eastern, and western sides. The site of Spanish fortifications in the colonial period, the port was revitalized during the 1970s. Shrimp fishing is the main activity, and the city has a meatpacking plant. In the late 1970s port facilities were upgraded to serve the Olancho Forestry Project, a plan to exploit and export timber resources of the interior, and a new road was constructed from San Esteban in Olancho department to the port to serve the forestry project. The Aguan River valley railway has been extended to the port, and the road parallel to the railway has been upgraded.
