National Museum of New Zealand

      in Wellington, general museum of science and the natural history of New Zealand. A Maori section contains artifacts and carvings. The collections include relics of Captain James Cook, particularly the original figurehead from his ship Resolution. A typical colonial house and a reconstructed Maori meetinghouse are displayed. A colonial section depicts the life of the early European settlers in New Zealand.
