Lebowakgomo

      town, Limpopo province, South Africa. It was the capital of Lebowa, a former nonindependent Bantustan. Lebowakgomo lies southeast of Polokwane. The town, established in 1974 with a population of only 115 inhabitants, was enlarged and developed in the early 1980s. The commercial establishments included bakeries, bottle stores, wood and coal yards, and butchering establishments. Industries at nearby Polokwane, Mokopane, Tzaneen, and Phalaborwa employ a number of workers from Lebowakgomo. The lake called Chuniespoortdam supplies water to the town, which is linked by road to Polokwane. Pop. (2001) 26,189.
