Carduelidae

      formerly accepted name of a family of songbirds (songbird), order Passeriformes (passeriform), consisting of about 112 species of gregarious, active little songbirds found in woodlands and brushlands worldwide, except in the Pacific islands. Notable members counted among this family were goldfinches (goldfinch) and siskins (siskin) (genus Carduelis), redpolls (Acanthis), rosefinches (rosefinch) (Carpodacus), crossbills (crossbill) (Loxia), bullfinches (bullfinch) (Pyrrhula), and canaries (canary) (Serinus). Today taxonomists (taxonomy) classify these birds (bird) as part of the family Fringillidae.
