Franklyn Curran Nofziger
American journalist and political adviser (b. June 8, 1924, Bakersfield, Calif.—d. March 27, 2006, Falls Church, Va.), was a gritty hard-core Republican partisan under a colourful and irreverent exterior. A former journalist and Washington, D.C., correspondent for the California-based Copley Press newspapers, Nofziger joined Ronald Reagan's successful campaign for governor of California in 1966 and served as Reagan's press secretary in Sacramento, Calif., for almost two years. He worked for Pres. Richard M. Nixon in 1969 and helped compile Nixon's celebrated “enemies list.” Always happier in political campaigns than in government bureaucracies, Nofziger returned to help Reagan win the presidency in 1980 and again served, but only briefly, in the Reagan administration as press secretary and political adviser. In 1982 he formed a political consultancy in Washington, D.C.
