      American music critic and journalist (b. 1929, Quincy, Mass.—d. Dec. 26, 2005, Hyattsville, Md.), served on the staff of the Washington Post for more than three decades and was the newspaper's chief music critic (1982–95). McLellan joined the Post in 1972. He also contributed music reviews and commentary to American Record Guide, Chamber Music magazine, the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and Britannica Book of the Year, among other publications. In addition, he taught literature at American University and journalism at George Washington University, both in Washington, D.C. McLellan's final music review for the Washington Post appeared on Oct. 13, 2005.
