Ruth Meckler
American pianist (b. Nov. 20, 1937, Detroit, Mich.—d. May 25, 2005, New York, N.Y.), was a recitalist and accompanist and also performed with orchestras and chamber groups. She graduated (1960) from the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, and married the violinist Jaime Laredo, with whom she frequently collaborated until their divorce in 1974. During the 1970s she made the first recordings of the complete solo works of Sergey Rachmaninoff and of the complete sonatas of Aleksandr Scriabin. For the last 17 years of her life, she presented a regular recital series at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
