      ), British rock bass guitarist, singer, and songwriter who was cofounder of the influential 1960s band the Small Faces (later the Faces), which gave a boost to the careers of a number of musicians, including Ron Wood and Rod Stewart; in 1983 Lane organized a concert featuring many top rock stars at London's Royal Albert Hall to raise money for research in multiple sclerosis, the disease that ultimately caused his death (b. April 1, 1946—d. June 4, 1997).
