      American journalist who shared a 1957 Pulitzer Prize for revealing Teamsters Union corruption and who in 1969, in a Life magazine article, disclosed U.S. Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas's acceptance of a $20,000 fee from financier Louis Wolfson, who later was convicted of stock fraud; Fortas resigned shortly after the article appeared (b. Feb. 2, 1920, Langford, S.D.—d. Feb. 8, 1998, Bryn Mawr, Pa.).
