      American blues musician who performed in Mississippi juke joints and at parties for over 30 years before attracting national attention when the 1992 documentary Deep Blues featured his music; he later released three albums on the Fat Possum label (b. July 28, 1930, Hudsonville, Miss.—d. Jan. 17, 1998, Holly Springs, Miss.).
