U.S. animators.

The brothers worked as newspaper cartoonists before founding their own studio in 1921 to make animated cartoons. In the mid 1920s they produced the first sound-on-film animations. They later created and produced the popular cartoon series Betty Boop (1931–39), Popeye the Sailor (1929–42), and Superman (1941–42) and the feature-length cartoon Gulliver's Travels (1939).
