a shade or blind for a window, as a sheet of cloth or paper on a spring roller. Also called blind, window blind.

Regional Variation. SHADE is used widely for WINDOW SHADE, although BLIND is common in the Midland U.S. (as well as in Great Britain), and CURTAIN is used chiefly in New England and the South Atlantic states.
