/pep"teuh nuyz'/, v.t., peptonized, peptonizing.
1. to subject (food) to an artificial, partial digestion by pepsin or pancreatic extract in order to aid digestion.
2. to hydrolyze or dissolve by a proteolytic enzyme, as pepsin.
Also, esp. Brit., peptonise.
