a method of waving the hair by curling it around metal rods from the ends inward toward the scalp. Also called croquignole wave.
[1930-35; < F: light blow on the head or nose, small crunchy biscuit, appar. deriv. of croquer to crunch (see CROQUETTE), though formation is unclear]
