Simon and Garfunkel
Paul Simon (1942– ) and Art Garfunkel (1941– ), US popular singers who performed together with great success in the 1960s. Their songs included Sounds of Silence (1966), Scarborough Fair (1966), Mrs Robinson and other music for the film The Graduate, and Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970), which won three Emmy awards. They started separate careers in 1970. Simon has since had success with Mother and Child Reunion (1972), Graceland (1986), which won a Grammy, and songs with South African musicians. He produced his first Broadway musical play, The Capeman, in 1998, but it was an expensive failure. Garfunkel continues to tour and perform.
