New York City Police Department
(abbr NYPD)
the large police department for New York City which was created in 1845, based on London’s Metropolitan Police and which was considered to be the first modern style police department in the US. NYPD has around 40 000 police officers and includes the Transit Bureau, who are responsible for protecting the subway system.
