General Electric
(abbr GE)
a US company that produces electrical products and aircraft engines, and owns NBC and Universal. It is the largest company in the world and was formed in 1892 when Thomas Edison’s company, Edison General Electric, joined with Thomson-Houston Electric. It is the only one of the 12 original companies on the Dow-Jones Industrial Average that still remains. It broadcast the first dramatic play on television in 1928, and Ronald Reagan presented The General Electric Theater on television in the 1950s.
