Cauto River

Cauto River

river, Cuba
      river in Granma and Santiago de Cuba provinces, eastern Cuba. The island's longest river, it flows for 230 mi (370 km) from its source in the Sierra Maestra westward through alluvial swamps into the Golfo (gulf ) de Guacanayabo. Its tributaries include the Salado, Bayamo, and Contramaestre rivers. It is navigable for about 70 mi. Rice, sugarcane, tobacco, and cattle are raised along its course.
