      Canadian stock promoter whose company, Bre-X Minerals Ltd., sold shares on the basis of claims that the Busang gold deposit in Indonesia was the richest strike ever; although investors lost billions of dollars when it was discovered that there was little or no gold at the site and that reports had been falsified, Walsh and his family had previously sold stock worth millions of dollars and moved to The Bahamas (b. Aug. 11, 1945, Montreal, Que.—d. June 4, 1998, Nassau, The Bahamas).
