Oscar Boetticher, Jr. 
      American film director and screenwriter (b. July 29, 1916, Chicago, Ill.—d. Nov. 29, 2001, Ramona, Calif.), was a professional matador in Mexico before becoming a leading director of classic western movies. Much of his reputation was based on seven films he directed from 1956 to 1960, including Seven Men from Now, The Tall T, and Decision at Sundown; they starred Randolph Scott as a lonely but resolute cowpoke hero confronted by villains, and Boetticher called them “morality plays.” He was also acclaimed for directing Bullfighter and the Lady (1951), a story based on his own experiences; he directed his last feature film, A Time for Dying, in 1971.
