Native Dancer
(foaled 1950) U.S. Thoroughbred racehorse.

He won the Preakness and Belmont stakes in 1953 but finished second in the Kentucky Derby. In 1954 he was named Horse of the Year. He won 21 of 22 total starts, achieving widespread popularity as the first horse whose major victories were seen on national television.

Sired by Polynesian out of Geisha, the gray colt was undefeated in nine races as a two-year-old. In the 1953 U.S. Triple Crown competition he met his only defeat, finishing second to Dark Star in the Kentucky Derby, but he won the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. In 1954, although he was troubled by a foot injury, he won all four of his starts and was named Horse of the Year before being retired to stud. At his death, his offspring had won more than $4,000,000 in purses.
