Gironde Estuary

Gironde Estuary
Estuary on the Bay of Biscay, southwestern France.

Formed by the confluence of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, it extends for about 45 mi (72 km) inland. It is navigable for oceangoing vessels, although it has sandbanks and strong tides.
