1. to pray humbly; make humble and earnest entreaty or petition.

2. to pray humbly to; entreat or petition humbly.
3. to seek or ask for by humble entreaty.
[1375-1425; late ME < L supplicatus (ptp. of supplicare to kneel), equiv. to supplic-, s. of supplex submissive, suppliant (see SUPPLE) + -atus -ATE1]
