[1935-40, Amer.; prob. expressive alter. of NOSE, NOZZLE; schn- by assoc. with any of several semantically related Yiddish words, e.g. shnabl beak, shnoyts SNOUT, shnuk beak, trunk; for suffix of schnozzola see -OLA]
