/per'ee ee"suy/, n.pl., sing. Perioecus /-keuhs/.
the inhabitants of ancient Laconia, constituting a dependent people of Sparta, who governed themselves and had a monopoly on trade and manufacture. Cf. Helot (def. 1), Spartiate.
