The American Power Boat Association (APBA) offered another season of racing for all types of boats in 1993. The big Unlimited hydroplanes were again dominated by Chip Hanauer (see BIOGRAPHIES (Hanauer, Chip )), who chalked up another stellar season driving Miss Budweiser to a national title and an unprecedented nine APBA Gold Cup victories. Finishing second in the national standings was Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, piloted by Mike Hanson, and Mark Tate in Winston Eagle followed.

At the end of the inboard season, the winners were Gordon Jennings in K-Racing Runabout, Brad Mosier in the 4-Litre class and Grand National Hydro, Bill Morrison in the 2.5-Litre Modified, Greg Borschke in the 1-Litre Stock, Frank Richardson in the Grand Prix, Mark Weber in the 5-Litre class, Randy Haas in the 6-Litre class, Ann Fitzgerald in the 2.5-Litre Stock, Brian Ohlis in the Super Stock, and Tom and Tommy Thompson in the Jersey Speed Skiffs.

National champions were crowned in the Offshore category after competition near Galveston, Texas. Sweeping the title in Pro Outboard was Bill Westberry in Spirit of Houston, and in Offshore A Frank's Marine, driven by Frank Eiroa, took home the honours. The Stock Outboard title went to Mobil 1 with second-year champion driver Robert Loeffler. Dan Weinstein in Powerplay Racing won the title in Offshore B, and Mac Seelig did the same in his Offshore C rig Harrah's/Zubaz 777. Allan Dunteman took the Modified championship in Agitator, and Stuart Hayin, driving Recovery, became champion in the Open class. The Super Vee title went to INXS and Ted Sabareese, and the Super Cat laurels were worn by Allan Feingold and Apache Kid.

In the U.S. Title Series outboard competition, winners of the eight classes were Jack Kuglar in RBH, Doug Hall in the 700-cc hydroplane, Tom Brinkman in the 250-cc runabout, Dan Kirts in both the 350-cc and 500-cc hydroplanes, Eddie Thirlby in the 500-cc runabout, Peter Crowley in the 250-cc hydroplane, and Jim Kirts in the 350-cc runabout.

The International Outboard Grand Prix series awarded three titles. Tim Seebold swept the series with a win at each tour stop to take the championship in the SST-140 class. The new SST-45 overall winner was David Dewald. With four first-place finishes in a row, Bill Seebold dominated the Champ Boat class. (MICHELE WESTON)
