Princess Ingrid Victoria Sofia Louise Margareta 
      Swedish-born Danish royal (b. March 28, 1910, Stockholm, Swed.—d. Nov. 7, 2000, Fredensborg, Den.), was queen of Denmark from 1947 to 1972, after which she was known as Queen Mother Ingrid. Ingrid was the only daughter of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. In 1935 she married Crown Prince Frederik, who 12 years later ascended the Danish throne as King Frederik IX. Ingrid's casual style helped endear her to the Danish public, and she was highly popular as queen. After her husband died in 1972 and her eldest daughter, Margrethe, became queen, Ingrid remained visible in the public eye. At the time of her death, she was a patron to some 40 social welfare organizations.
