the bivalent group -N=N- united with one hydrocarbon group and another atom or group, as in benzenediazo hydroxide, C6H5N=NOH, or the bivalent group =N=N united with one hydrocarbon group, as in diazomethane, CH2=N=N. Also called diazo radical.
